Once qualified for Medicare, selecting a plan is more complicated than you might think. There is no one-size-fits-all plan. While Medicare entitles one to a basic level of coverage, it leaves a number of gaps. There are deductibles to be paid, copays, coinsurance, and no cap on annual costs. Prescription drug coverage is very limited, vision coverage and other benefits are lacking. To fill in these healthcare gaps, one has many options to choose from. That's where I come in! Let me fill you in on your choices and help you navigate Medicare and all its complexities.
This consists of Part A and Part B ONLY. It does not cover copays, coinsurance, or have a maximum out-of-pocket limit per year. It only covers a very limited number of prescription drugs. Additional prescription drug coverage (Part D) is advised. Original Medicare coverage alone leaves you vulnerable to extra costs that can be avoidable with proper planning.
Also known as Part C, Medicare Advantage plans are a “bundle” plan. They cover everything that is included in Parts A and B, but they also include additional benefits and most often Part D prescription coverage. These plans are provided by private insurance companies, rather than the federal government.
When one chooses to stay with Original Medicare rather than choosing a Medicare Advantage plan (Part C), having supplemental coverage is advised. These plans are provided by private insurance companies and help with copays, coinsurance, and places caps on total annual costs. These plans can be costly if one is under age 65.
Part D is often included in the Medicare Advantage “bundle” plans. If one chooses to receive their Medicare through Original Medicare, a Part D standalone plan would help cover your prescription costs. These plans are provided through private insurance companies.
